USEFUL INFORMATION

USEFUL INFORMATION FOR STUDENTS

PERSONALSAFETY

Students must ensure that they do not put their life at risk at all times.  The Emergency number in the UK is 999. Students must keep all their valuable items safe and secure at all times.

GUIDANCE AND WELFARE SERVICE

The Guidance and Welfare Service offers help and support to all students studying at Stratford College London.  We give confidential and objective information, advice and guidance on courses, careers, student finance, welfare and personal matters.

ACADEMIC AND PASTORAL SUPPORT

Students are allocated four hours each week tutorial time, during which there is the opportunity to meet with their tutor both individually and as a group. Records of these sessions, issues raised, action agreed and progress made, are maintained.

LOST PROPERTY

All lost property should be reported in writing to the Administration Office, outlining in as much detail as possible the item that is lost.

If any student finds what could be a lost item, they must report/present the item to the Administration Office.

CHANGE OF CIRCUMSTANCES

All students must inform the Admin Office about the change of their circumstances (change of address, contact number and/or visa status)

ATTENDANCE

All students must attend minimum 15 hours per week tuition to fulfil course requirements. If students attendance falls below 80% then the college will send them a reminder, after another two weeks the student will receive a final reminder and after ten days of the final reminder the student’s admission will be terminated and Stratford College London will inform the awarding body and/or funding agencies.

ID CARDS

All students are given ID cards free of charge. Two passport-sized photographs must be sent with the Application Form or given to the Administration department on arrival.

TEXT BOOKS

The college will supply all students with the basic study guides and online resources to support them in their studies. Students will need to provide their own textbooks. When you commence your course, your lecturers will give you a list of recommended text books for the subjects you are taking. The college has a limited number of recommended books in all the courses and modules we offer. These books are available for students if they wish to use them.

 LIBRARIES

The library is open for student use during normal college hours. In addition to our college library facilities, there are many public libraries which are useful to many students and are generally free if you live locally. Most local libraries have a reference section which can be an excellent source of information. There are also quiet areas in the library where you can sit and work. There are also many specialist libraries in London which you may be able to access for your studies.  The Welfare Dept. at the college can help students locate the nearest libraries.

USE OF LIBRARY, COMPUTERS, INTERNET AND SELF ACCESS CENTRE

The college library, computing suite and self-access centre are open at specified hours, including some evenings, for students to study and research. Both the use of computers and email/internet access are included in the fees and can be used within specified time periods every day. Students will receive an induction to the services and facilities that are available in the college at the start of their course. Sessions on using print and online resources are provided, in liaison with subject tutors to help students acquire information literacy skills.  Students may also have access to the validating universities’ resources via the university website.
